The Strategic Program (SIP) is designed to provide participants with a solid function in key practical aspects of investing and financial economics. This program is designed to give students the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge that can be directly applied in the investment arena. The certificate will also demonstrate to current and prospective employers evidence of recent professional training in this field. In some cases, course work may also be applied to toward continuing education requirements in fields such as accounting, law, and finance, or other forms of career advancement.

Developed by the UCSB Department of Economics, this program will help anyone seeking to gain a deep understanding of the forces that govern all types of financial markets through a rich blend of lectures, guest speakers, and hands- on projects.

Program Requirements
ADMISSIONS
The minimum standard for admission to this certificate program is UCSB enrollment and a C or higher in Economics 1 and 2 (or equivalents). Students can apply through UCSB's PACE website.
COURSE CREDITS
All SIP offered through UCSB Extension will be part of the X400 series. This is a professional development program - UCSB students cannot apply X400 series units towards their degree.
COURSES
The courses will consist of lectures, guest speakers, case studies, data projects, and final projects/ presentations.
INSTRUCTORS
The instructors who teach in this program are practicing professionals from the community, as well as UCSB ladder faculty and lecturers from the Department of Economics. They are chosen for their personal commitment, academic background, teaching ability, and professional expertise. Lecturer appointments will require the consultation and approval of the Chair of the SIP Executive Director and the Chair of the Department of Economics.
Scholarships
Our goal is to educate the largest number of students possible in the field of investment. That is why the Strategic Investment Program offers scholarships to interested students.
When applying, students can decide between two scholarship options:
1. Cover the entire costs of both ECON X499.1 and X499.2
2. Cover the entire costs of 3 SIP elective courses required to complete the certificate
